MacDraw - to draw classy looking road maps- draw the map making all the lines the third line thickness on the menu.  When all lines have been drawn, group all the lines and duplicate that group.  Set the line thickness of the duplicate group to the second line thickness on the menu.  Then, under the Pen menu, set the pattern of the duplicate lines to white.  Select both the original group of lines and the duplicate and align both centers ( Pull down the Arrange menu, choose Align Objects then align L.R. Centers and T.B. centers.  The white group will "carve" out the centers of the road, giving you a very fancy drawing.
